Olympic Torch Relay on Garratt Lane

The sun came out to greet the Olympic Torch as it was carried down Garratt Lane on one of its final legs of the historic UK wide tour.

A large crowd had gathered and the excitement was palpable.  A glorious day and a real sense of anticipation amongst the community. Old and young stood side by side, and even the policemen were joining in.

There was a whir of helicopters overhead, and the passing of all the sponsorship vehicles, then out of knowhere along came the torch, people ferverishly taking pictures, with barely enough time to cheer as it flew by and was gone.

Labour MP Sadiq Khan joined the prossesion of cyclists trailing the torch - he tweeted "Hundreds (thousands?) lining Garratt Lane waiting for torch relay to come by. Haven't seen anything like this since Silver jubilee in 1977"

A once in a lifetime event for Earlsfield and for the briefest of moments when we saw "Earlsfield at the Centre of the World"
